QUITMAN Services for Emma Hiatt Carmichael will be held Friday at 10 a.m. at Manassa Church with the Revs. Keyon Smith and Wesley Slay officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Wright's Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Ms. Carmichael, 97, of Shubuta, died Tuesday, July 15, 2003, at H.C. Watkins Memorial Hospital.
Survivors include her brother, Rex Hiatt of Leeds, Ala.; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be today beginning at 5 p.m. at the funeral home and 30 minutes prior to the service at the church.

MACON Services for Merle Jernigan will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church of Macon with the Revs. Allen Mapp and Paul Brown officiating. Burial will be in Oddfellows Cemetery with Cockrell Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Jernigan, 86, of Macon, died Wednesday, July 16, 2003, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo.
Survivors include her sons, Walter Ervin Jernigan of Sharpsburg, Ga., Henry Douglas "Hank" Jernigan of Brooksville and David Phillip Jernigan of Millport, Ala.; three sisters, Lucille Swearingen of Macon, Ga., Frances Roberson and Helen Gregory of Louisville; brother, Billy Joe McKinley of Louisville and Jerry McKinley of Macon, Ga.; six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Van Jernigan; three sisters and a brother.
Memorials may be made to Central Academy, P.O. Box 231, Macon, MS or a favorite charity.
Visitation will be today 6 p.m.-7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Services for John H. King Jr. will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at E.E. McDonald Community Chapel in Meridian with the Rev. John Thompson officiating. Burial will be in Salem Cemetery in Toomsuba. E.E. McDonald Funeral Home of DeKalb is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. King, 54, of Meridian, died Tuesday, July 8, 2003, in his home.
Survivors include a son, Adrian K. King and his wife, Lynda, of Chicago, Ill.; his mother, Lula Lee H. King of Ft. Wayne, Ill.; an aunt, Eula Williams of Meridian; one granddaughter; two sisters, Lula Coutryer and her husband, Glenn, of Birmingham, Ala., and Earnestine Jeter and her husband, Kenneth, of Albany, N.Y.; a brother, Freddie Hughes Jr. of Meridian; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father and a sister.
Visitation will be today 6 p.m.-7 P.m. at E.E. McDonald Community Chapel in Meridian.
Memorial services for Helen Moore Dawson will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Central United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Semmes Cemetery. James F. Webb Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Dawson, of Oxford, died Wednesday, July 16, 2003, in Meridian. She was a member of Central United Methodist Church in Meridian and an affiliate member of the University Avenue Methodist Church in Oxford.
She was an honors graduate of Meridian High School and an honors graduate of Mississippi University for Women. She also did graduate work at the University of Mississippi and George Peabody College.
Mrs. Dawson taught English and Latin in Brooksville, Suqualena and the Meridian school systems. She was a past president of the Meridian Junior Auxiliary.
Survivors include her daughter, Virginia Dawson Dorkey and her husband, Rick, of Belleton, Va.; a son, Thomas Winter Dawson and his wife, Susan, of Oxford; two granddaughters, Caroline Dawson White and her husband, Joel, of Virginia and Virginia Dawson Metheny and her husband, Jeremy, of Memphis; a sister, Mrs. Joseph L. Baier of Meridian; a brother, Thomas W. Moore and his wife, Claire, of St. Helena, Calif.; a great-grandson, Charles Dawson White of Virginia; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Winter W. Dawson.
Memorials may be made to a favorite charity or church.

Mrs. Bell, 45, of Toomsuba, died Monday, July 14, 2003, in Russell.
Survivors include her husband, Gerald N. Bell Sr.; children, Renee A. Walker, Gerald N. Bell Jr., Derrick M. Bell, Arquita K. Bell, Kenyetta Bell, Destiney Powe and Namon Mason, all of Toomsuba; brothers, Johnny Latham and his wife, Sarah, of Los Angeles, Alfa Fred Latham and his wife, Ella Ree, of Russell, Paul Latham and Amos Latham of Meridian; sisters, Guissie Conley and her husband, Sylvester, of Causeyville, Barbara Shamberger and her husband, Elrie, of Sacramento, Calif., Linda Holton and her husband, Willie, and Joyce Mason, of Meridian; six grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
