They can be ordered by simply saying "moose tracks," "blueberry cheesecake," "caramel toffee" and even "bear claw."
In recent years, ice cream has taken on a life and name of its own. Traditional flavors like vanilla and chocolate have been replaced.
With so many different varieties of ice cream these days, those seeking a cool treat are sure to find their favorite.
At Chance &Dooley's, an ice cream and doughnut shop at 1308 22nd Ave., in downtown Meridian, the hot summer weather is luring residents in for a cold thrill.
The couple took over the store, formerly Mr. Rodgers Donuts &Ice Cream, last April. In addition to Luvel brand ice cream, the shop also serves up yogurt in low fat, fat free and their popular sugar free strawberry.
But don't worry. The Keelys still serve up dozens of homemade doughnuts hot and fresh seven days a week. New to the menu: beignets the light French donut popular in New Orleans.
The Keelys also serve the much-in-demand doughnut holes.
Keely said traditional ice cream flavors like chocolate and vanilla are still popular. But other flavors like candy bar, bubble gum, chocolate chip cookie dough, cherry vanilla, butter pecan and black walnut are what customers are asking for.
And to even Keely's surprise, her best-selling flavor of ice cream is strawberry cheesecake.
Toppings have also become popular among ice cream eaters. The most requested toppings include M&M's, strawberries and pineapple.
