Kelli Martin said she is excited and a little overwhelmed as she looks forward to her first year of teaching in Meridian public schools.
Martin is among more than 60 new teachers who will begin working in Meridian's public schools next month, 30 of whom have only been in classrooms as students.
The Meridian Public School District's three-day new teacher orientation began Monday at MSU-Meridian Campus. More than 100 people, including school board members, district administrators and principals, attended the opening day.
Fred Wile, president of the Meridian School Board, spoke briefly to the group about the importance of classroom instruction.
Wile also said there are many changes taking place in the district and it is an exciting time for growth and change.
Cheryl Thomas, executive director of curriculum and professional development with Meridian public schools, coordinated the conference.
