ENTERPRISE A very youthful Enterprise football squad came into Friday night's game against Southeast Lauderdale with a lot of unanswered questions. At the conclusion the Bulldogs were left with some answers as Enterprise took a 25-13 win over the Tigers in front of a packed house at L.J. Davis Field.
The Bulldogs piled up 289 yards of total offense with much coming on the ground to wear the Southeast defense down. First-year head coach Joel Speed was breathing a little easier after the 12-point win over Southeast Lauderdale.
"It feels great to get that first win out of the way and I know that our kids are as happy as I am," Speed said. "We showed great effort on both sides of the ball and I was very impressed with the way our backs played."
The Bulldogs did most of the damage in the opening possession to take a quick lead over Southeast Lauderdale. The drive featured 13 solid running plays that was capped off by a three-yard touchdown run by senior tailback Cody Windham. Wade Weathers added the extra point to make the score 7-0 with 5:27 left in the first quarter.
Southeast Lauderdale would answer the call on the next possession as the Tigers would tie the game 7-7. After a pair of solid rushes by Marcus Walker, the Tigers scored on a 34-yard touchdown pass from Drew Harper to Jeremiah Clark to knot the game 7-7 after a successful PAT by Harper.
After the first quarter Enterprise would take the lead right back and the second score was of the passing variety for the Bulldogs. Weathers completed a 15-yard pass to Windham to give EHS a 13-7 cushion after a missed PAT to go into the locker room at halftime.
The Tigers opened the second half by turning the ball over to Enterprise and set the Bulldogs up in excellent field position. The turnover came by way of a fumble and Enterprise would later score on yet another rushing touchdown. Adam Simpson powered through from one-yard out to make the score 19-7 with 11:10 remaining in the third quarter.
"We didn't execute very well all night blocking and we turned the ball over way to much," Southeast Lauderdale head coach Dwayne Taylor said. "We have some things to improve on and we just need to move on and get ready for next week."
Simpson would notch the final score of the evening for the Bulldogs on a 61-yard punt return for a touchdown and move the score to 25-7 with 1:46 remaining in the third period. Southeast added a final touchdown late in the fourth quarter on an eight-yard pass from Harper to Quintin Wright to end the night with the scoreboard showing a final of 25-13.
Windham led the way offensively for Enterprise with 20 rushes for 142 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Simpson chipped in with 18 carries for 66 yards and two scores. Scott Moseley led the way on defense with eight tackles.
and an interception, while Latney had six tackles and two fumble recoveries.
"Coach Brannan did a great job in preparing our defense and we were very proud of the way our guys played on that side of the ball," Speed added.
Enterprise returns to action next Thursday night to renew an old rivalry against Clarkdale on the road. Southeast Lauderdale returns home on Friday to tangle with cross-county rival Northeast Lauderdale.
