A record number of degrees were awarded to more than 220 members of the 2003 summer graduating class at Jones County Junior College. Degrees awarded include associate of arts, associate of applied science and vocational certification.
Graduates from East Central Mississippi included Christopher J. Moore, Enterprise; Christopher K. Kelly, Quitman; Eric P O'Neil, Quitman; Shawanda L. Pickens, Shubuta; William R. Greenfield, Newton; Joseph M. Smith Jr., Union; and Sidney L. Polk, Shubuta.
About 1,000 University of Southern Mississippi students received degrees Aug. 1 during summer graduation. USM President Shelby Thames awarded the degrees during two graduation ceremonies at Reed Coliseum in Hattiesburg.

Stewart, Collinsville, bachelor of science; Daniel Marcus Stewart, Collinsville, master of science; Adam Jeffrey Turbyfill, Collinsville, bachelor of science; Stacy Lynn McInnis, Marion, bachelor of arts; Brandon Knight Allen, Meridian, bachelor of science; and Jessica Lee Dooley, Meridian, bachelor of science in business administration.
Elizabeth Randall Hall, Meridian, bachelor of arts; Allen Wade Heggie, Meridian, master of science; Hazel Maxine Hendric, Meridian, master of science in nursing; Heather Lane Johnson, Meridian, master of social work; Crystal Lynette Jordan, Meridian, bachelor of science in business administration; and Laura J. Kerr, Meridian, bachelor of science.
Lance Steven Malley, Meridian, bachelor of fine arts; Melissa Kaye Mowdy, Meridian, bachelor of science in business administration; Nikki Neal, Meridian, bachelor of science; Jamie Leigh Osby, Meridian, master of science; Camelia K. Smith, Meridian, bachelor of social work; and Martina J. Spencer, Meridian, bachelor of science in business administration.
Timothy K. Bethany received a bachelor of business administration degree from the University of Memphis during its Aug. 17 commencement ceremonies. Bethany was a member of the Association of Information Technology Professionals. He is the son of Nancy L. Bethany of Meridian.
Cynthia H. Luther, recently received a doctor of science in nursing degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
Luther is on the faculty at the University of Southern Mississippi, College of Nursing, Meridian Campus. She is also an adult nurse practitioner at Rush Senior Health Center.
Luther's degree was conferred following her dissertation, "Health Promotion Behaviors of Women at Risk for Osteoporosis." A graduate of Matty Hersee School of Nursing, Luther previously earned a bachelor's and a master's degree in nursing from USM and post-master's certificate as nurse practitioner from the University of Mississippi Medical Center.
Luther is married to Jerald Luther. They have three children, Jennifer, Katie and Charlie, and one grandchild, Allison. Luther is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Hardy.
