Rewards are wonderful. I know I have a great feeling when I am rewarded for working extra hard and accomplishing my goals.
4-H'ers are no different. They also like to receive special attention for their work. Recently, the Lauderdale County 4-H Advisory Council recognized 4-H members for their outstanding 4-H accomplishments.
The 2002-2003 4-H Awards Program was held at the East Mississippi Electric Power Association Auditorium. Bert Guy, president of the 4-H Advisory Council, welcomed the guests.
Forty-seven 4-H members received certificates for their accomplishments at District and State 4-H events.
Stanley Shannon, 4-H Advisory Council member, recognized the following 4-H'ers for receiving blue ribbons on their individual 4-H record in state competition:
Summer Lucky, Clothing; Justin Lucky, Swine; Lydia Burns, Conservation; Laurie Gross, Pet Care; Daniel Burns, Beef; Lizzie Lucky, Pet Care; Natalie Gross, Pet Care; Mariah King, Pet Care; Hannah Smith, Photography; Drew Phillips, Conservation; Catherine Lucky, Horse; and Sarah Burns, Conservation. Each received a Lauderdale County 4-H T-shirt.
Lauderdale County 4-H Clubs receiving blue ribbons on their club records in state competition were the Centerhill-Obadiah 4-H Club, the 4-H Photography Club, the 4-H Personal Development Club and the 4-H Pet Club. They were selected as Banner Clubs and will receive a monetary award and a banner sponsored by BellSouth.
4-H member Catherine Lucky received a 4-H pen and pencil set presented by County Director Patty Swearingen. She won first place in the state with her 4-H Horse Record and will attend the National 4-H Congress Event in Atlanta in November.
Kay Pool, 4-H Advisory Council member, recognized 4-H member Laura Lucky and volunteer leader Linda Clayton as recent members into the 4-H All Star Organization. The 4-H All Stars provide recognition for outstanding 4-H members and an opportunity for growth through service.
Amanda Thomas, an 11-year 4-H member who participates in the Livestock Program, was presented with the Zed Hawkins Scholarship. This scholarship is given in honor of Zed Hawkins, who was manager of the Coca-Cola Bottling Co. for many years.
4-H Advisory Council member Sharon Busler recognized all the 4-H volunteers for their dedication and service to the Lauderdale County 4-H Program. Linda Clayton was presented with a 4-H Clover Charm in recognition as Outstanding 4-H Volunteer Leader for the South Central Area.
The 4-H Photography Club was presented the 2003 Community service Award for its "Photo Shoot for Silverleaf" project.
The club received a plaque presented by 4-H Advisory Council member Deke Cross.
4-H Advisory Council member Wayne Edwards presented plaques to this year's Outstanding 4-H'ers. The junior winners were Drew Phillips and Sarah Burns and the senior winner was Summer Lucky.
Justin Rodgers, 4-H Youth Agent, announced the Outstanding Clubs for this year. Receiving $100 were the Centerhill-Obadiah 4-H Club and the 4-H Photography Club; receiving $75 were the 4-H Pet Club and the 4-H Personal Development Club; receiving $50 was the Lauderdale 4-H Club; and receiving $25 were the 4-H Sewing Club and the Cloverleaf 4-H Club.
I am very proud of all of our 4-H'ers and their accomplishments. 4-H has a place for everyone adults and young people alike.
