Meridian Eagles shut down Northwest

The Meridian Community College Eagle soccer team used great defense and timely opportunities to take a pair of shutout wins over Northwest Community College in ljunior college soccer action on Saturday afternoon.
The MCC women took a very exciting 1-0 win over the Lady Rangers, while the men's team used a four-goal second half to take a 4-0 victory.
The MCC women moved to 5-8 overall on the season and the men remained undefeated at 10-0-2.
Meridian returns to action Wednesday on the road at Copiah-Lincoln. The games are scheduled for 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.

The Lady Eagles used an early goal in the first half to secure a very slim 1-0 win over the Lady Rangers. MCC head coach Alex George is very pleased with the way his Lady Eagles are coming together toward the conclusion on the 2003 season.
The lone goal of the match came with 31:13 left in the first half on a beautiful shot from Krisi Nash to give the Lady Eagles the only offense it would need for the entire contest.
Meridian almost took a 2-0 lead in the match with 13:48 left in the final period. Cheri D. Wilson took a long shot from the right side of the field from about 20 yards out, but the ball hit the crossbar.
MCC made a huge defensive stand for the final 10 minutes and hold on for the one-goal victory over the Lady Rangers.

The MCC Eagles played a very upbeat second half to take the 4-0 win and keep their undefeated streak alive.
After a scoreless first half the Eagles came away with its first goal of the match with 37:05 showing on the clock. Andrew Culpepper notched the goal to put Meridian up 1-0 thanks to a great assist from Travis Brown.
The Eagles continued to pour on the offense with 31:05 left in the second on a goal from Benton Dufour. The play was setup on a great crossover pass from Eddie Graham to extend the lead over the Rangers.
The final two goals of the day were collected by Brandon Rogers to give Meridian its 10th win of the season.
