DECATUR After playing three of their first four games on the road, the East Central Community College Warriors will be glad to play a football game on their own field when they host Copiah-Lincoln Community College Saturday for homecoming. Kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m.
East Central is in deep trouble in the playoff race as the Warriors are already 0-2 in the MACJC South Division and 1-3 overall. Co-Lin comes in with a 1-1 division mark and a 2-2 overall showing.
The Warriors lost 33-17 at Mississippi Gulf Coast last week, while the Wolves fell 36-7 to Jones.
I thought our kids played hard in the Gulf Coast game and gave a great effort. We had opportunities, but we just made way too many mistakes."
Trailing 19-17, ECCC blocked a Bulldog field goal. However, a pair of Warriors touched the ball after it crossed the line of scrimmage and Gulf Coast picked the ball up and scored a touchdown off the play to go up 26-17.
Co-Lin ranks last in the state in total offense, averaging 198.2 yards per game. ECCC ranks fourth with a 321.3-yard per game average.
The Wolves are second in total defense, allowing 172 yards, while the Warriors are 11th, giving up 333.5 yards per outing.
On the ground, ECCC's Germaine Smith averages 66 yards per game, while Kenshay Hunter adds 50.5 yards per contest. None of the Wolves are ranked in the top 13.
Warrior quarterback Terrell Robinson is 35-of-68 passing for 466 yards. Co-Lin's Johnathan Little is 27-of-53 for 236 yards.
Titus Ryan leads the ECCC receivers with 15 catches for 194 yards.
Co-Lin's Jonathan McLaurin is fourth in the state in punt returns, averaging 13.3 yards. Johnathan Walker is fourth in kickoff returns, averaging 25 yards per return. ECCC's Ryan is fifth with a 24.4-yard average.
The Wolves have a battering ram in 255-pound fullback Johnathan Eley.
Rod Conner has three interceptions and Howard Overby has two for the Wolves. Dusty Shack has four quarterback sacks for Co-Lin.
ECCC's Sed Eichelberger is second in the state in solo tackles with 39. He has 48 total tackles. Kelvin Horne is tied for fourth in solo tackles with 33 and has 38 overall stops.
Co-Lin linebacker Tim Dobbins has 42 total tackles, while teammates Damien Gary and Brandon Williams have 28 each.
