Weekend packed full of activities

Wow! There are a ton of things to do this weekend in the Meridian area. Everything from a flea market and a dog show to concerts and an art festival. Here's a listing of some of the activities:
On Saturday:
7 a.m.-1 p.m. "Strut Your Mutt" Pet Walk at Bonita Lakes Park. The walk begins at 9 a.m. Proceeds will benefit the American Heart Association. The event is sponsored by St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Lauderdale County Animal Shelter, the Downtown Development Committee and Mainstreet Meridian. Registration fee is $5 per dog. Awards will be given. Call 693-2502.
10 a.m.-5 p.m. Flea Market Meridian at the Frank Cochran Center in Highland Park. About 50 vendors are expected to be on hand to buy, sell or trade antiques, collectables, arts and crafts. Items include baseball and racing memorabilia, Indian artifacts, guns, coins, hand-painted furniture, handmade dolls, candles and baked goods. Admission is 75 cents for adults, 50 cents for children. 10 a.m.-until The 1st Annual Threefoot Art Festival on Front Street in the Singing Brakeman Park next to Union Station in downtown Meridian. Artists from across the South will have their work on display. Entertainment begins at 11:30 a.m. with Steve Watson Trio, followed by The Caldwells from 3 p.m.-5 p.m. The Capital City Stage Band takes the stage at 6 p.m. followed by the Bluz Boys. The public is invited and admission is free.
10 a.m.-until Tours, exhibits and demonstrations at the Soul Steam Museum in downtown Meridian. Fried fish lunch, $6 in advance or $7 at the door. Mold-making workshops 10 a.m.-5 p.m. "Sparks in the Dark," a nighttime demonstration of iron casting, begins at 5 p.m. The Soul building is at 402 19th Ave.
10 a.m.-5 p.m. Lazy Acres in Chunky opens a Pumpkin Patch; come pick your own pumpkin. Also includes pig races, corn maze, hay maze, animal park, hay ride to the pumpkin patch, food and fun. Call 655-8264 or visit www.lazy-acres.com.
10:30 a.m.-2 p.m. Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts from a six-county area gather for a "Roundup" at Highland Park, featuring tent set-ups and a variety of Scout-related demonstrations. Call the Scout office, 693-6757.
5 p.m. October Festival at the Carmichael Community Center on County Road 630 in Quitman, sponsored by Mt. Pisgah Church. Call Linda Dobbs, 776-0222.
6 p.m. Mission Meridian hosts "Let's Come Together Concert" with Brian Culpepper at 900 Constitution Ave. Call 693-1332.
7 p.m. Marvin Weir and Jimmy Roundtree will host a Country and Western Show at the Collinsville Community Center on Highway 19 North. A pot luck dinner will begin at 7 p.m. Musicians are invited to perform. Call 626-8128.
