A new yellow flag flies just outside the U.S. Postal Service office on Ninth Street in downtown Meridian.
The flag is made of a jersey material similar to that worn by U.S. Postal Service-sponsored cyclist Lance Armstrong, multiple winner of the Tour de France.
The flag, officially called "The Order of the Yellow Jersey," was raised Friday in honor of Meridian's outstanding customer service and employee performance at the office.
The office was recognized as one of the top ones in the Southeast after it received the highest marks in a recent customer satisfaction measurement survey conducted by the Gallup Organization.
The flag will be flown at the downtown Meridian office for the next three months.
The U.S. Postal Service's Office of the Consumer Advocate bases the quarterly award on overall performance and three elements of the Gallup survey accuracy of delivery, consistency of delivery and professionalism in serving retail customers.
The flag features the Postal Service logo with an eagle emblazoned in yellow. Doris McKinney, general clerk at the office, said she was happy with the recognition.
