The Arts will be the theme of the 13th Annual Main Event planned April 26 at the Lauderdale County Agri-Center.
There will be different forms of the arts being performed throughout the day, including the Meridian Community College chorus which will sing at noon on center stage.
The Main Event, a community showcase for local businesses and industries, will start at 9:30 a.m., and run through 7 p.m. It was held at the Agri-Center for the first time last year and more than 3,500 people attended.
Companies set up booths and keep them open throughout the day to let people know what they do, who they are and where they are located.
There is no deadline to reserve a booth in the Main Event, but there will be a late charge after April 6. Each year, awards for booths are given for Best of Show, Best of Show -Small Business, and Best of Show -The Arts.
An annual highlight of the Main Event is the presentation of the Hartley D. Peavey for Entrepreneurial Excellence Award. The East Mississippi Business Development Corporation is now accepting nominations for the award with the entry deadline set for April 6.
E.M. "Hoot" Gipson was the 2000 winner of the award.
The Main Event usually ends around 5 p.m., but this year, the EMBDC will sponsor a "Business After Hours" reception until 7 p.m.
