Services for Att Lamar Boren will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at Oak Grove Baptist Church in Bonita with the Rev. Roy Dabbs officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery with James F. Webb Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Boren, 79, of Meridian, died Tuesday, April 27, 2004, at Rush Foundation Hospital. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and the Merchant Marines and served in World War II. He retired from General Box after more than 32 years.
Survivors include his wife of more than 56 years, Marie West Boren; sons, Ernest Lamar Boren and his wife, Diane, of Meridian and Bennie Keith Boren and his wife, Rhonda, of Gulfport; daughters, Brenda Louise Boren McIntyre and her husband, Dorian, of Jackson; Cathy Lyn Boren Pratt and her husband, Lynn, Donna Marie Boren Duckworth and her husband, Ron, and Amy Renee Boren Parker, all of Meridian; sisters, Margie Ellen McClain and Annie Pearl Collier, both of Meridian; a brother, Bolie Boren of DeKalb; 11 grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and seven step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Walter Mac Parker; two sisters and five brothers.
Pallbearers will be Jeffrey Scott McIntyre, Terry Ellis Pratt, Jeremy Lee McIntyre, Matthew Blake Boren, Joshua Lynn Pratt, Richard Allen Parker, Eric Wesley Duckworth and Michael Wayne Rice. Honorary pallbearers will be the Senior Men's Class at Oak Grove Baptist Church.
Visitation will be held today from 5 p.m.-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
WAYNESBORO Services for Luther Jones Sr. will be held today at 11 a.m. at Copeland Church of God with the Revs. I.D. Sullivan, Rick Long and John Price officiating. Burial will be in Jones-Hill Cemetery. Freeman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Jones, 70, of Orange Beach, Ala., died Sunday, April 25, 2004, at Thomas Hospital in Fairhope, Ala.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce Jones of Orange Beach, Ala., sons, Luther Jones Jr. of Myrtle, Luther Daniel Jones of Magnolia Springs, Ala., Chris Herndon of Nashville, Tenn.; daughters, Mary Taylor Stapp of Meridian, Martha Reid of Union, Janice Sellers of Foley, Ala., Carolyn Ann Von Vultree of Fayetteville, N.C., Michelle McDonald and Ida Killough, both of Myrtle, Anita Pitts,of Waynesboro and Libby Walker of Saraland, Ala., Frances Martin of Tuscaloosa, Ala., and Marjorie Lynn Jones of Orange Beach; a brother, Joe Edward Jones of Orange Beach and a sister, Lucille Robinson of Orange Beach; 32 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Drew Jones.
Services for James Henry Thorne will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church in Hickory with the Revs. Winnie McMahan, Tracy Marrs and Robert Mosley officiating. James F. Webb Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Thorne, 84, of Lauderdale County, formerly of Newton County, died Tuesday, April 27, 2004, in his home. He was a member of Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church. He was a retired surveyor with Engineering Plus.
He led a simple, honest, hard working and faithful life. He enjoyed the fellowship of his family, friends and neighbors. He was loved by his family and friends and will be sadly missed. He will be remembered as an avid gardener.
Survivors include his wife, Ethel Simmons Thorne; daughters, Janice Thorne Pickett and her husband, Ronnie, Sarah Smith Hare and her husband, Danny, all of Meridian; grandchildren, Alex James Pickett, Mandy Melia Pickett, Daniel Blake Pickett, Robert Mitchel Smith and Hearndell Lee Smith, all of Meridian; brothers, Hancel Thorne and Lamar Thorne, both of Hickory; and several nieces, nephews, and a special friend and neighbor, Ralph Jacklin.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Gladys Gibbs Thorne; parents, Harvey and Vennie Thorne; brother, Marion Thorne; sisters, Icie Thorne Williams and Mavis Thorne Holt.
Pallbearers will be Alex James Pickett, Hearndell Lee Smith, Ronnie Thorne, Ralph Jacklin, James L. Thorne, Donald Carter, Bill Williams, Jimmy Johnson, Malford Holt and David Airhart. Honorary pallbearers will be Daniel Blake Pickett and Robert Mitchel Smith.
Visitation will be today 5 p.m.-8 p.m. at the funeral home and 30 minutes prior to the services at the church.
