The Union Yellow Jackets swept a doubleheader at Durant Tuesday in impressive fashion.
In the first game, Union blasted the home team 20-0. And in the second game things didn't get much better for Durant as the Yellow Jackets cruised to an 11-1 win.
Game 1, Union 20, Durant 0: The Yellow Jackets shut out Durant in the early game while racking up 13 hits en route to the lopsided victory.
Jody Blunt picked up the win for Union to even his season record at 2-2.
Jeff Box took the loss for Durant.
Along with picking up the win on the mound, Blunt also led the Yellow Jackets at the plate with two doubles.
Other notable batters for Union were Brooks Vance with a double, Eric Graham with a single and a double, Danny Caine with a double, Corey Bowler with a double and, Casey Shackelford with a double and Paul McMahon with two singles.
Game 2, Union 11, Durant 1: Brooks Vance led the Yellow Jackets at the plate in the second game with two doubles.
Zack Robinson also had a double for Union and Justin Darby had a double and a single.
B.J. Norton got the win on the mound for Union to up his season record to 4-1.
With the two wins Tuesday, Union improved to 13-6 on the year. The Yellow Jackets are 6-0 in District 5-1A .
Union is tentatively planning on playing a makeup game with Meridian on Thursday before a big district showdown with Noxapater on Friday.
Noxapater 7, Edinburg 1: The Tigers improved to 7-5 on the year with a big 7-1 win at Edinburg Tuesday.
The Tigers are a perfect 6-0 in district competition.
Corey Moore picked up the win on the mound to up his season tally 2-3.
Shane Estes suffered the loss for Edinburg.
Will Baskins led the Tigers at the plate with two singles and a home run. Baskins finished the night with two RBIs.
James Edwards added a single and a double.
Noxapater's next game is Friday against Union. The winner will be in first place in District 5-1A.
NW Rankin 17, Wayne County 1: With the loss, the War Eagles fell to 7-10 overall and 0-4 in league play.
Joel Magnum picked up the win for NW Rankin while Marcus Powe took the loss to fall to 2-2.
Michael Palmer had two singles to lead Wayne County at the plate.
Wayne County plays host to Southeast Lauderdale on Friday.
Game time is set for 7 p.m.
Kemper Academy 7, Macon Central Academy 1: Ty Harbour and Justin Robertson each had three singles and Wade Whitaker had a single and a home run for Kemper Academy as the Rams improved to 5-3 Tuesday.
Bo Harper picked up the win for KA to up his season mark to 2-1.
Tyler Huerkamp suffered the loss for Central.
Drew Powell and Von Gomel each had a single and a double to lead Central batters.
Newton County 6, Velma Jackson 2: Allen Harrison's Cougars rebounded from a tough Saturday to keep the Falcons (0-9) winless on the year, and in the process, gain another Division 5-3A win.
Mylan Anders picked up the win for the Cougars (6-8), while Eric Small was saddled with the loss to drop to 0-3. Anders also helped his cause with a homer, while David McConnell, Robbie Carey and Josh Avant were multiple hitters.
The Cougars used a big four-run seventh inning to break the 2-2 tie. NCHS piled up 15 hits while the Falcons committed four errors.
Lake 10, Scott Central 6: The Hornets continued their surge, while backyard and division rival Scott Central fell to 6-6 on the season.
Jake Nester picked up the win on the hill. Nester also got going at the plate with double. Tied at one, Lake busted out in the top of the third with four runs. The Hornets repeated the trick in the sixth, to push back the Rebels. Jonathan Siegrest took the loss for the home team.
Morton 8, Newton 2: The Tigers continued their dominant play with the run-ruling of Newton. NHS took an early 1-0 lead that didn't last long as Morton took over, sending Brent McMillian to the loss.
Philadelphia 11, Ackerman 5: The Tornadoes ripped through Ackerman behind a fierce effort from winning pitcher Caleb Breland.
He also left the yard, as Philly dropped AHS to 10-3, by virtue of a three-run first and a five-run seventh. Daniel Stevens absorbed the Ackerman loss. His team committed a whopping eight errors.
New Hope 10, Neshoba Central 3: The Rockets didn't have much thrust, as New Hope rolled its record to an impressive 16-2, in part to staking an early 7-0 lead, from which the Rockets never recovered. Rocket pitcher Wes Turner was shelled in the loss.
Seminary 9, Enterprise 3: The Bulldogs 2001 swoon continued Tuesday night as Seminary dropped them to 2-11. Don Moore took the loss, as the host Bulldogs early 1-0 lead vanished quickly.
SHS (12-7) grabbed a stranglehold on the contest with a combined nine runs in the second and third frames. Each team committed three errors.
Softball
Clarkdale 13, Enterprise 3: The Clarkdale Lady Bulldogs improved their season record to 21-4 on Tuesday with a 10-run victory over Enterprise.
Emily Howard (16-3) picked up the win for Clarkdale while Charly Speed suffered the loss for Enterprise.
Morgan Wright led Clarkdale batters with a 4-for-4 showing. JorD'an Orr had two doubles on a 2-for-3 performance. Brandi Wright was also 2-for-3.
Britney Speed led Enterprise at the plate. Speed was 2-for-2 with a double.
Union 11, Neshoba Central 1: The Lady Yellow Jackets improved to 15-2 with a mercy-rule victory over the Lady Rockets.
Union, which was led by Marley Smith on the mound, scored the first 11 runs of the game before the host Lady Rockets got their lone score in the bottom of the sixth.
Smith improved to 10-1 on the year.
Lauren White was 3-for-3 with a triple to lead Union hitters.
