Special to The Star
Four of Meridian's most distinctive homes beautifully decorated for the holidays will be featured in A Christmas Tour of Homes.
Sponsored by Meridian Little Theatre, the Dec. 10 tour will showcase the homes of Danny and Linda Hill, Mark and Leslie Phillips, Ed and Rhonda Poole and Frank and Ricki Tucker. The event is scheduled from 1 to 5 p.m.
Located at 10475 Gilbert Joyner Road is the Cumberland River cottage style Southern Living Idea Home of Danny and Linda Hill. The home features a Great Room with cathedral ceilings and a double fireplace opening into the adjacent Keeping Room. One was of the Great Room is made of French doors that lead out to a large porch that extends to three sides of the home.
A breezeway leading from the Keeping Room will take visitors back in time to Danny's Diner. Decorated in the style of a 50s restaurant, the game room features booths, tables, a 1950s Coke machine and a working Wurlitzer antique jukebox.
With its vast and gracious rooms and unique architectural accents, the traditional style brick home of Dr. and Mrs. Mark Phillips is a showcase of holiday tradition.
The decorations blend well with the personal touches found throughout the home. Leslie's extensive collection of Madame Alexander dolls is a delight and her love for antiques more than evident. An interesting highlight is the family's home theater, featuring a collection of framed album covers and movie posters.
The Poole home is of a French Mediterranean style, sitting on 100 acres in North Central Lauderdale County. The grand room is the most formal room in the house. The 16-foot trayed ceiling is accented with custom-designed tiles and the room is enclosed with large, marbleized columns.
The owners' favorite room is the master suite and bathroom. The large bedroom's focal point is it custom-designed bed accented with large, wood columns and a canopy formed of iron. The fireplace mantle is made of interior dryvit, featuring custom-designed lion heads.
A description of the Tucker residence was not available at press time. It will be provided in a future article.
Tickets for the tour will be available Monday at the following locations: Rhonda's Connection, Saxon's Hart-Hall, Point Rexall, Reflections, Great Southern National Bank (North Hills location) and the Meridian Little Theatre's Box Office. Tickets are $20, advance; $25 on the day of the tour.
