VINA-July is known for food, fun and fireworks but after the Fourth of July those images usually start to fade except in Vina.
The Vina Rescue Squad holds their annual July Fest the last weekend of the month.
"This is the only fundraiser the rescue squad has all year," Dorothy Davidson, Vina Rescue Squad member, said.
This year's event will be held on Saturday, July 28 beginning at 10 a.m. at the Vina Fire Department. The big event of the day will be the chance to win a new vehicle or $17,000 in cash, Davidson said.
"We are selling chances for the vehicle or cash for a $100 donation," Davidson said.
In addition to the grand prize, there will be $1400 in prizes given away that day.
Tickets for the raffle can be purchased through any rescue squad member, town hall or at the Senior Citizen's Center in Vina.
Davidson said that the squad sells 325 tickets to the drawing annually, and has only missed the goal one year.
"We missed our goal a couple of years ago by only six tickets," Davidson said.
She added that one year she and her ticket partner, Larry Plott, won the grand prize.
"My husband talked me into splitting a ticket with Larry Plott, and when we won, we split the money," Davidson said.
In addition to the drawing, there will be inflatables, food, and various booths in which to shop.
There will also be plenty of free entertainment and fireworks for everyone. All the proceeds go to support the Vina Rescue Squad.
"We usually make about $8,000 each year," Davidson said.
