The U.S. Space and Rocket Center announced the winners of the Russellville Middle School poster contest Friday.
U. S. Space and Rocket Center's Rachel Barth presented the winners of the contest with their prizes Friday morning. The posters were divided into grades, and there were first and second place winners named for each grade.
Hunter Byron won first place in the sixth grade competition while Colton Hargett was awarded the second place prize for that grade division.
"I thought I was in trouble," Byron said after being asked to report to the principal's office unexpectedly.
Jose Figueroa was awarded the first place prize for the seventh grade division and Whitni Lasseter took the second place prize in the division.
Each first place winner received a certificate and four passes to the U.S. Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville. The second place winners received a certificate and a backpack. All of the winning posters will be hung in the education center at the Space and Rocket Center.
Director of Education at the Space and Rocket Center Kat Balch decided the winners of the contest, Barth said.
"There were over 150 entries in this contest," Barth said.
The posters were all very different. Byron said that he used paints on his poster, while Hargett and his mom used chalk to complete his. Figueroa used gel pens to compose his poster.
"It took me and my mom 30 minutes to get all the chalk off our hands," Hargett said.
