The sounds of screaming excitement could be heard through out the building as the fourth grade students at Russellville Elementary cheered members of the Positive Pressure Strength Team as they demonstrated different kinds of strength.
The Positive Pressure Strength Team has two members, Lymann Rea and Jeff Hargett. Together, the duo spends time at schools, churches and other groups teaching youngsters about the importance of making the right decisions for a healthy and happy life.
"The right negative decision is going to kill you one day," Rea told the group. "One day you are going to make a negative decision that will end your life, and I don't want to see that happen."
Rea talked to the students about the dangers of drugs, alcohol and tobacco, and the importance of listening to parents, teachers and other positive influences in an effort to keep students from trying drugs.
"When your parents and teachers tell you something, it's because they care about you, and they want what is best for you," Rea told the students.
The event was part of RES' weeklong observance of Red Ribbon Week. Nancy Cooper, counselor for the school's Safe and Drug Free Schools Program, said all Russellville City Schools are participating the week's events.
"Each school has a different theme each day," Cooper said. "(Tuesday) we wore blue and (Wednesday) we'll dress a like to demonstrate that friends don't let friends do drugs."
The events at each school coincide with National Red Ribbon Week, a week designated to renew our fight against drugs and alcohol.
