If the day after Thanksgiving was any indication for local retailers throughout Meridian, this holiday season may indeed turn out to be the happiest time of the year.
Despite a constant downpour of rain on Friday, retailers report that business was good.
As crowds huddled into the shopping mall and downtown shops to take advantage of holiday sales, retailers were counting their blessings on the apparent increase in business as compared to last year.
Store managers in Bonita Lakes Mall were equally as pleased with early indications as Friday's turnout was heavy.
Although there has been some speculation nationally by experts that the retail market wouldn't do as last year, local stores seem to be bucking that forecast.
Joy Lummus, K-B Toys store manager, said she was extremely pleased with turnout. Lummus opened her store for an early bird sale on Friday at 5 a.m. and she claimed traffic hadn't slowed by midday.
Scooters have been the top seller, according to Lummus.
Mayer attributes the increase in sales at his store to an overall increase in men's and women's apparel this year.
