Baseball
John Moss Fall Baseball: registration for ages 14-17 is going on now until Aug. 18. Registration forms may be picked up at John Moss Baseball Field until July 2, or at Judge Little. The $35 registration fee is due upon sign-up. Games will be played on Monday and Tuesday night beginning Aug. 27 thru Oct. 30. For more information, contact Johnny Warren at 482-0778.
Madison-Ridgeland Baseball Tournament: will be held July 5-8 at Hite Wolcott Park in Ridgeland. This tournament is seven year old Coach pitch. The tournament is a pool-play format with a guaranteed four games. Balls will be provided. Entry fee is $200. For more information contact Darryl Breland at 1-800-981-8919 or 601-853-0012.
Basketball
Shirley A. Walker : Basketball Camp at Alcorn State University will be held July 9-11 at the Davey L. Whitney Complex. Registration is July 8 from 4-6 p.m. Full day cost is $85, while overnight cost is $110. For more information, contact camp director Nathaniel Kilbert at 601-877-6500 or 601-877-6501.
Boxing
"TNT" Boxing Club : will host an amateur boxing show June 30 at the Wechester Community Arts Center located at 3014 15th St. Bouts will start at 2:30 p.m. Local youth boxers from 9 years of age and up will be competing against clubs from Laurel, Forest, Pearl and others from across Mississippi. Tickets are $5 for ages 10 and up and $3 for all other ages. For more information, call 483-1190.
Cheerleading
ECCC Camp: The East Central Community College cheerleaders will sponsor their cheerleader camp July 9-11. Junior high school and high school squads may attend. The camp will be held daily from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Brackeen-Wood Physical Education Building. Cost is $60 per cheerleader. Lunch will be provided. Cycling
Biker Sunday 2001: motorcycle rally will be held July 15 at Cornerstone Church beginning at 9 a.m. For more information, contact Joe Deen at 482-7305.
Football
ECCC 7-on-7 Team Passing Camp: will be held July 12 on the Warrior football field. Cost is $15 per player, which includes insurance, lunch and camp t-shirt. Free Junior Golf Tournaments: The Quitman Country Club will host a mixed scramble tournament June 30-July 1 with a tee time of 1 p.m.. Entry fee is $40 per person. For more information, contact Steve Hampton at 776-5992 or Frankie Felter at 776-6693.
Soccer
The Meridian Girls: U-17 select soccer team tryouts will be held July 12 at 6 p.m. and July 14 at 8 a.m. at the Northeast Park Soccer fields. For more information, contact Harold Harris at 693-0272 (office) or 483-0883 (home).
Softball
Junior Olympics: Girls Slow Pitch ASA State Tournament applications are now available. The MASA will hold the U-10 tournament in Meridian July 6-7 at Northeast Softball Complex at Northeast Park. The winner advances to the national tournament in Gadsden, Ala., Aug. 9-12. For more information, contact Ricky or Lynn Robertson at 482-4691.
USSSA Class D: state tournament will be held Aug. 11 at the Laurel Sportsplex. USSSA Core 47 Worth balls will be used only. For more information, call Larry Green at 601-428-8851.
Coca Cola Classic: men's tournament will be held July 7 at the Sammie Davidson Complex. Four home run and out rules. Entry fee is $125. For more information, call V.L. Mott at 482-3639 or Alvin Alexander at 986-8594.
Swimming
Meridian Swim Association: is inviting children of all ages to join their summer league program. TRY MSA WEEK June 25-28 gives children the chance to take part in a family oriented sport that builds confidence, self esteem and overall physical health. The program at Highland Park Pool runs from 4-5:30 p.m. For more information, call Chris or Nichole Engledow at 604-1440.
Meridian Swim Association: is offering Meridian Swim School for beginner swimmers of all ages. Two weeks sessions beginning July 9 will introduce children to the pool and swimming.
