One is in, while another is out.
Meridian's Dixie Majors baseball team reached the Dixie Youth World Series championship with a 4-0 victory over Virginia Wednesday afternoon in North Charleston, S.C.
The Meridian Dixie Pre-Majors reportedly fell 7-5 to Florida in Florence, S.C. to end their championship run. Scoring details were not available at press time.
In North Charleston, S.C., Jason Spinks pitched 5 1/2 scoreless innings and also had an RBI-single to lead the Meridian Majors. Spinks scattered four hits and walked four before giving way on the mound to Matt Creighton, who tossed the final 1 1/2 innings, giving up a hit, walking one and striking out one.
Jonathan Stevens and Brad McKey both had run-scoring doubles, while Chase Spencer added an RBI-single. Ty Harbor, Phillip Garrett and Mann Dubose each added a single.
Texas and host South Carolina battled later Wednesday with Texas handing North Charleston their first loss of the tournament, 7-2. That gave the final three teams one loss apiece.
Since North Charleston had already received one bye, Texas and Meridian drew for the bye into the championship game. The Mississippians earned the bye and will face the winner of Thursday's 4 p.m. rematch between Texas and North Charleston.
The title game will then be played 30 minutes after the completion of the Texas/North Charleston contest.
