One and zero, the Clarkdale Bulldogs look to remained undefeated this weekend as a new winning attitude holds strong.
Coming off a season opening 20-6 victory over Edinburg, the Bulldogs gear up for a road trip to West Lincoln Friday night.
Bulldog's head coach Bubba Hathorn was pleased with last week's win.
The Bulldogs were 1-9 in 2000 with a solo win against West Lincoln. Last year's win over West Lincoln broke their 39 game losing streak. They haven't had a winning season in 21 years.
However, don't let West Lincoln's season opening 28-12 loss to St. Joseph fool you, Hathorn said. West Lincoln has a a dangerous backfield and a tough defensive line, he said.
The Bulldogs are ready for the challenge. Last week, Clarkdale had many standouts including running back Marcus Hood who racked up 102 yards on the ground. Clarkdale quarterback Justin Culpepper had 64 yards also.
Look for running back Alvin Moffite to have another big game. Last week's game left Moffite, Hood, and Culpepper with touchdowns under their belts.
Hathorn and the Bulldogs are locked and loaded for West Lincoln.
Clarkdale's strong running game is sure to cause problems for West Lincoln along with their will to win.
During the preseason, Hathorn spoke of a new winning attitude and an excitement for football around the school.
With new division rivals and a shuffled playoff entry, the Bulldogs have a good shot at the playoffs.
The six teams in division 5-2A include perennial favorites Newton and Scott Central along with Kemper County, William Sullivan and South Leake.
Kemper County lost its season opener while the other three won and William Sullivan did not report. The top four teams out of the six go to the playoffs. This gives Clarkdale a good shot.
The Bulldogs run a wing T offense and a hefty eight-man front on defense. Friday's matchup is sure to be a ground battle with both teams fighting for every inch.
