WASHINGTON Federal funding totaling more than $3.1 million has been approved for rural development projects in five Mississippi counties, U.S. Sen. Trent Lott and U.S. Rep. Chip Pickering said today.
In Neshoba County, a grant of $250,000 will be used by the Neshoba County Board of Supervisors to renovate the Neshoba County Hospital/Nursing Home.
In Noxubee County, grant funding totaling $864,750 will join loans totaling $253,000 for the Town of Shuqualak. The funds will be used to purchase a new fire truck, construct a new fire station, and to resurface streets.
In Leake County, a rural development loan totaling $1 million will assist the Leake County Board of Supervisors in purchasing land for an industrial park and to construct an access road.
In Yazoo County, a loan of $500,000 and a grant of $100,000 will enable Yazoo Community Action Inc. to construct an educational facility as part of the local Head Start program.
In Sunflower County, a grant of $165,000 will enable Delta Housing Development Corporation, a non-profit group, to purchase and renovate new office space. Additional funds will be provided by a loan from a local bank and the organization itself will be providing more than $141,000 for the project.
