The Meridian High Wildcats dropped a 4-1 decision to Warren Central in the bitter cold at Ray Stadium in Tuesday night prep soccer action.
The Wildcats (6-6-1) scored first when Benji Ware found the back of the net with a header off a throw in at the 7:00 minute mark.
MHS seemed to control the tempo and the ball for much of the first half except for a Warren Central goal, as Todd Monsour scored at the 30:00 minute mark of the half.
With the refs swallowing the whistles and forgetting where they placed their red and yellow cards, rough play from both sides abounded.
Wildcat Michael Collins had to leave the game with a reaggravated ankle injury and WCHS had a player carted off with a knee injury midway through the second half. Peter Davidson went the distance for MHS with a broken arm.
It was a few minutes after play resumed that the Vikings (8-6) took control with a pair of goals by Ricky Pennington and a last-minute score by Greg Carroll to provide the final margin.
MHS girls 2, Warren Central 0: Ramey Rush scored on a goal and assisted on another as the Lady Wildcats improved to 7-2 with the blanking of the Lady Vikings (6-6-1).
The Lady Cats were able to maintain control of the ball and outshoot WCHS by a big margin.
Deanna Harris got MHS on the board just before the half when she got the assist by Rush and squibbled the kick into the corner of the net at the 28:49 mark.
At the 15:05 mark of the second half Rush broke away for a one-on-one opportunity and punched it in for the final goal.
MHS had 17 shots on goal to Warren Central's five.
The Lady Cats will meet Vicksburg in Brandon Thursday.
