The West Lauderdale Knights lost their homecoming game Friday night to the Greene County Wildcats 33-3.
The Knights recovered a loose ball on the Wildcat seven-yard line, but could only come away with a 24-yard field goal by Will Moseley. The Knights led 3-0.
Greene County would not be phased by the field goal, as the Wildcats ran three plays to put Chuck Ross in the end zone from four-yards out. The two-point conversion was good to make the score 8-3 Greene County late in the first quarter.
The next Wildcat score came when Alton McCann rambled 14-yards for the touchdown. The two point conversion was no good, and the Wildcats remained on top 14-3 with 9:49 left in the half.
The Wildcats struck once more in the half when McCann scored again from 11-yards. The two-point conversion failed again, making the halftime score 20-3.
In the third quarter, the Wildcats put a six-play scoring drive together to make the score 26-3. Ross ran it in from the one-yard line for his second touchdown of the night. Damien Rouse added the extra point to make the score 27-3.
West Lauderdale had several more opportunities to score, however the Knights could not manage to do so.
The final Wildcat score came with 3:56 left in the game, when McCann dashed in from the 11-yard line to make the score 33-3.
Now with their backs against the wall, the Knights have to win out in division play to make a post season appearance. Coach Stan McCain said,"We'll find out what kind of coaches we are, we aren't giving up."
The 3-4 Knights hit the road next week to face off with the Warriors of Choctaw Central, while the Wildcats host Purvis.
