The final standings are in for the recently completed Halloween Scotch Doubles, with the duo of Jenny Taylor and Leon Fike taking home First Place with a 624. Alan Topcik and Robbie Relinski combined for a 608 and Second Place while Cathy Jones and Johnnie Blackmon copped Third Place with a 596. Karen Turner and Mike Carson rounded out the list of those cashing with a 595. A total of $248 was raised in the tournament itself. The winner of the 27" Color TV was James Dean of Little Rock.
Leon Fike reports that an additional $349 was raised by the sale of the raffle tickets, bringing the total raised for our youth bowlers to $597. Congratulations once again to Leon and to Candy Blackmon for a job well done. The Meridian YABA would like to thank all local bowlers for their participation and support of our future.
The Mississippi State Mixed Tournament is now in progress at McComb Bowling Center in McComb. There are still spots available each of the next two weekends for both mixed teams and mixed doubles. You may wish to call ahead to make sure the time and dates you prefer are still available. Contact information is available on entry forms at both Dixie Bowl and McCain Lanes.
Looking ahead, don't forget the Mississippi State Seniors tournament to be held at Dixie Bowl the weekends of December 1-2 and 8-9.
This the second of four State tournaments to be hosted in Meridian this season. A strong local turnout is urged to help make this event a success. Also in December, Stan's Classic Tournaments returns to Dixie Bowl with an 8-game Sweeper on December 16. This event consists of both Scratch and Handicap divisions. You may enter either division for $65 or both divisions for $110.
Meridian bowlers were saddened by the loss of one of our longtime bowlers when Sam Webb passed away last week. We will always remember Sam's exuberance and love for the game. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Billy Webb and the rest of Sam's family.
In local action this week, Andrew Clayton came oh-so-close to his fifth bid for perfection by pounding out 11 straight strikes before hanging the ten pin to close with a 299 game.
Andrew also copped the top series for the week with a 756. Amy Davis continues to shine for the ladies by punching out a 244 game/645 series.
Barbara Holden took the high game with a 255 while Eunice Dillard made her presence known with a nice 226 game in the Monday Nighters league.
