Supporters of the Meridian Museum of Art are calling last weekend's art auction a "smashing success." More than $13,000 was raised during the ninth annual event.
More than 100 people attended the gala event at Union Station. The audience enjoyed a gourmet dinner featuring fine food, drinks and door prizes before the main event of the evening the live auction began in earnest.
New Orleans auctioneer Adam Marcus juggled the action as audience members engaged in bidding wars for popular pieces. There were 67 works of art offered, by artists from throughout the Southeast.
The auction is the museum's largest fund-raiser.
Bresnahan also thanked the volunteers who made the auction possible, including museum board members, supporters and the U.S. Navy's Shipmates. In an emotional moment during the evening, the Shipmates were thanked for their assistance, and then received a standing ovation in appreciation of their service on behalf of the country.
