Through her volunteer work with the American Heart Association, Ruth Chamblin has seen steady progress in the ongoing effort to treat heart disease.
Chamblin took on another duty for the cause this morning when she was named "honorary chairman" of Art For Heart 2002.
The art auction and dinner will be Feb. 21 at Northwood Country Club. The event will include a hospitality hour featuring a martini bar, a silent art auction and a gourmet meal.
While working for the heart association, Chamblin served as memorial chairman for 13 years. She was the first Art For Heart chairman in 1978.
Chamblin has also served on the board of directors for The Meridian Little Theatre.
She is a founder of the Meridian Symphony Orchestra, a founder and director of the Meridian Junior Auxiliary and executive director for the March of Dimes. Chamblin is currently the music director at First Presbyterian Church.
The Art For Heart event will have three parts:
The first is a preview party for those purchasing Patron tickets. It will be Feb. 1 at the home of Dr. and Mrs. Mark Phillips.
The next night, Feb. 2, items for the silent and live auction will go on display during a reception at the Cartmell Gallery.
The final event is the "Art For Heart" dinner and auction Feb. 21. The seating limit is 280.
