Lauderdale County Humane Society to meet
The Lauderdale County Humane Society will today at 7 p.m. in the Supervisor's Room of the Raymond P. Davis Lauderdale County Courthouse Annex building. A spokesman from Animal Control to bring the group up-to-date on the developments of the upcoming merger of Animal Control with the county. The public is invited to attend.
Still time to register for classes

Make-A-Wish Foundation to meet Thursday
The Make-A-Wish Foundation of Mississippi will sponsor its monthly Meridian Volunteer Luncheon on Thursday. The meeting will be from 11:45 a.m.-1 pm. in the sixth floor boardroom at Rush Medical Group.

Martin Luther King Jr. Parade set for Jan. 21
The Meridian Dr. Martin Luther King Celebration Committee and the city of Meridian will present the third annual Martin Luther King Parade and Celebration on Jan. 21.
The theme is "Reclaiming the Dream."
The parade line-up will begin at 10 a.m. at 1019 25th Ave., the Meridian Public School District office. The parade starts at noon and will follow the same route as the Christmas parade ending at Dumont Plaza for a commemoration program.
Jackson State University's marching band, "The Sonic Boom of the South," is expected to participate. The Meridian High School band and other bands in the surrounding area also have been invited.

Old Ironsides makes Mobile it destination
Beginning Jan. 15, active duty U.S. Navy Sailors from the USS Constitution and staff from the USS Constitution Museum will travel to Mobile, Ala., as part of the educational outreach program "Old Ironsides Across the Nation."
Museum staff and the ship's crew will travel to local schools Jan. 15 through Jan. 17, sharing the stories and the history of the 204-year-old warship using artifacts and student participation.
Weekend activities will begin Jan. 17, 7 p.m.-8 p.m. at the Museum of Mobile, with a free public demonstration where visitors can learn about the USS Constitution's role in America's Navy history,
Presentations on Jan. 19, from 10 a.m.-5 p.m., and on Jan. 20, from 1 p.m.-5 p.m., will be highlighted by special activities provided by the USS Constitution Museum and hourly demonstrations by the ship's Master Gun Crew.
The crew will present the steps of early 19th Century Naval gun drill on a replica section of the undefeated frigate's gun deck, complete with cannon provided by Naval Historical Center Detachment Boston.
In honor of the ship's visit, the Museum of Mobile will be free to all visitors during the specified times of the weekend events.
10th Annual Affordable Housing Conference
Mississippi Home Corporation, the state's housing finance authority, will host Mississippi's 10th Annual Affordable Housing Conference Jan. 23-25, at the Silver Star Resort and Casino in Philadelphia.
Approximately 300 government officials, educators, home builders, real estate professionals, mortgage lenders, housing related non-profits and for-profits will attend this year's conference.
