Walking – it's so simple.
Chances are you don't even remember learning how.
But walking with Meridian Community College's Phi Beta Lambda chapter and the Mississippi Division of Multiple Sclerosis on Saturday, you can help the third of a million Americans living with the disease.
The walk, which will begin with registration at 9 a.m. at Bonita Lakes, will raise funds and educate people about the drug therapies available for those suffering with multiple sclerosis.
Multiple sclerosis is a chronic, often disabling disease of the central nervous system. Symptoms may be mild, such as numbness in the limbs, or severe, such as paralysis or loss of vision.
Most people with the disease are diagnosed between the ages of 20 and 40; the unpredictable physical and emotional effects can be lifelong.
The progress, severity and specific symptoms of multiple sclerosis in any one person cannot yet be predicted, but advances in research and treatment are giving hope.
For more information about the walk, contact Phi Beta Lambda adviser Brenda Arnsdorff at MCC at 484-8810.
