School board approves settlement

A settlement of $75,000 was approved by the Lauderdale County School Board Thursday for overtime compensation of 19 current and former non-certified employees.
A total of 29 plaintiffs had claimed the district owed them overtime pay between 1998 and 2000.
U.S. Magistrate John Roper set settlement figures for school districts after school officials met with him in conference last month.
The county school district previously paid $136,282.81 to 66 individuals in overtime compensation for 1998-2000. The Meridian Public School District paid 33 individuals $54,372.77 in overtime compensation for the same period of time.
The Meridian School Board approved of a $60,000 settlement of overtime compensation for 13 plaintiffs during its regular monthly meeting Monday.
In other action Thursday, the county school board approved the resignation of Don Litton as principal of Northeast High School, effective at the end of the school year. Rob Calcote, Northeast High School assistant principal, will replace Litton next school year. Little said Litton is pursuing a principal's position in another school district.By Steve Gillespie
