Lauren K. Smith is the recipient of the Emma Donald Scholarship awarded by the Matinee-Philharmonic Music Study Club of Meridian.
The scholarship can be used at the College of Smith's choice. Its purpose is to encourage students to continue their study of music and to share their talent with others.
Smith is a piano student of Dr. Manley Blackwell of Livingston, Ala. She is a senior at Meridian High School and plans to major in music in college. She is the daughter of Larry and June Smith.
LIVINGSTON, Ala. Augusta Holloway, a junior at the University of West Alabama, received the Estelle Scales Accounting Scholarship at the college's awards program.
She was also recognized for being inducted into the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society, Blue Key Honor Fraternity, Alpha Chi Honor Society, Cardinal Key Honor Society, Delta Mu Delta Business Honor Society, Order of Omega Greek Leadership Honor Society and Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges.
Holloway is also a member of Alpha Sigma Tau Sorority, Delta Sigma Pi business fraternity, UWA Accounting Club and Phi Eta Sigma Honor Society.
In previous years Holloway received the York Rotary Club Accounting Scholarship, Alpha Tau Sigma Scholastic Award and the UWA Cheerleading Scholastic Award.
She is a 1999 graduate of West Lauderdale High School.
Jacques Lenoel Gordon, son of the Rev. Leo Gordon and Jerry Gordon, has received a degree from the University of Mississippi School of Dentistry in Jackson.
Gordon is a graduate of Northeast Lauderdale High School and earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Southern Mississippi.
He was a Dean's List scholar, a member of the Honor Council, and he received the John A. Evans scholarship. He was also a member of the Phi Kappa Phi National Honor Society.
Gordon was a research assistant in the Department of Periodontics at the School of Dentistry. He served as president of the Minority Student Health Care Association and was the Minority Health Care Dental representative.
Last year, he went on a dental mission trip to the Dominican Republic where he performed exodontia, operative and removable restorative services. He is a member of the American Student Dental Association and the Academy of General Dentistry.
Gordon will do his residency in oral and maxillofacial surgery at the Medical College of Georgia.
Matthew David Schultz received a law degree with highest honors from Florida State University College of Law on April 27.
Schultz graduated from Meridian High School in 1986. He earned a bachelor's degree in history and in paralegal in 1992 and 1993 from the University of Southern Mississippi.
While attending FSU, he served as an editor of Law Review and was a member of ACLU. He will serve a two-year clerkship with Judge Robert L. Hinkle, U.S. District Court, Northern District of Florida.
Schultz is married to the former Jennifer Lightsey of Laurel. They have two daughters, Anne Marie and Katherine. They will live in Tallahassee, Fla. He is the son of David and Sandra Schultz of Meridian.

Jill Ethridge Boren of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., graduated from Pensacola Junior College on May 6, with a degree in dental hygiene. She is married to Bill Boren and is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Ethridge of Meridian.
ALCORN STATE Robert Gaddy of Lauderdale County was one 568 graduates at Alcorn State University's 131st commencement held on May 11. Gaddy received a bachelor's degree.
MEMPHIS, Tenn. Shauna A. Ballard of Munford, Tenn,. received a bachelor's degree in psychology during graduation ceremonies at The University of Memphis.
She was a member of Phi Sigma Pi Honor Fraternity and served as a research assistant for the Psychology Department. She also published a paper presented at the Southeastern Undergraduate Psychology Research Conference.
Ballard is the daughter of Keith Ballard of Meridian and Chandra McLean of Munford.
Justin Temple Knight graduated on May 18 from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary with a master's of divinity degree in Biblical studies. Knight is the son of Rosanne Temple Knight of Meridian and the late Louie Knight.
