Two-time defending champions Scott Morgan and Judge Little served notice Sunday morning that winning the Ed Lewis Memorial Day Tournament at Northwood Country Club yet another time wouldn't hurt their feelings at all.
Morgan and Little fired an 11-under par 60 in Sunday's scramble format to take a one-stroke lead over first round leaders Reid Davis and Winston Powell.
Morgan and Little lead at 123, 19-under par, while Davis and Powell are at 124.
Play concludes today with the championship, first, and second flights teeing off at 1:30 p.m. The third, fourth, and fifth flights begin their rounds at 8:30 a.m. Today's round will be played with an alternate shot format.
Morgan and Little had a 6-under par 29 on the front nine, making birdies on Nos. 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, and 9. On the back nine, they had birdies on Nos. 10, 15, and 16 and picked up an eagle-3 on the par-5, 525-yard, No. 12.
Davis and Powell fired a 63 Sunday, getting birdies on Nos. 1, 3, 5, 6, 11, 12, 14, and 16 to enter today's round one stroke off the lead.
Davis and Powell were one of just three teams in the 68-team field to fare worse in the scramble format than they did in Saturday's four-ball play. Sixty teams bettered their first-day score, while five shot the same in both rounds.
In third place at 126 is the team of Buddy Davis and Scott Davis. They shot a 9-under 62 in Sunday's best-ball round. The Davises had birdies on Nos. 2, 3, 6, 8, 10, 12, 13, 14, and 15.
Fourth place belongs to John Rae and Jim Green at 128. They turned in a 63 Sunday with birdies on Nos. 1, 3, 5, 6, 9, 10, 12, and 14.
Bubba Hampton and Doyle Bryan are in fifth place at 129. They shot a 63 Sunday with birdies on Nos. 1, 3, 5, 9, 11, 12, 13, 14, and 17. They suffered a bogey on No. 15, a 380-yard par-4.
Tied for sixth at 130 are the teams of Randy Pool and Earl Aycock and David Ray and Larry Love. Pool and Aycock shot a 65 Sunday, while Ray and Love fired a 62.
Todd Kriegel and Ben White and Don Bounds and Sidney Bowers are tied at 131.
