The Franklin County Chamber of Commerce is in the middle of a major membership drive and promotion to get more people shopping in the county.
The idea is not to just get "out-of-towners" shopping here, but residents who often look elsewhere, Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Cheryl Bradford said.
The chamber is promoting "Shop Franklin County First" throughout the county.
"It is an effort to increase our membership to make the chamber stronger and help current members get in the mindset of shopping at home," Bradford said.
"With the prices of gas and everyday living costs rising the way they are we all need to be mindful that people here need our business."
The chamber has mailed out over 300 information packets to businesses across the county, which include a newly produced chamber guide and a decal promoting "Shop Franklin County First."
"I am encouraging everyone to put these decals on their windows and really promoting this," Bradford said.
"It will strengthen the chamber and the community as a whole."
