Stancil secures decisive victory

Veronica Stancil was all smiles Tuesday night as it became apparent she had secured the Republican nomination for Franklin County Revenue Commissioner.

According to the uncertified numbers, Stancil secured a solid victory over her opponent, James Taff, by a margin of 1261 votes to 492 votes.

“I am overwhelmed and very humbled by the support I received, not just today but throughout this election process,” Stancil said.

“I have met so many wonderful people throughout this county while I have been campaigning, and I appreciate each and every one of them who offered me their support.”

Turnout was overwhelmingly low for the Tuesday primaries, but Stancil said it made her even more appreciative of those who did turn out to vote.

“We knew that it would be a pretty low turnout, but I just want to thank the voters who did come out for helping me get this far in the election process,” she said.

Stancil will now turn her focus to the November general election where she will face Democratic nominee Don Garrard, who has previously served as revenue commissioner. Garrard ran unopposed on the Democratic ticket.

“I’m looking forward to a good, friendly campaign against Mr. Garrard,” Stancil said.

“I am glad to have the opportunity to continue on to November, and I would just like to ask the voters’ for their continued support.”
