This year’s Fishing Rodeo was held July 2 at Sloss Lake in Russellville.

It was a warm, sunny day for the whole family to come out and enjoy together.

“The turnout was great, for it being the first year us holding the Fishing Rodeo,” said Parks and Recreation Director Chad Sears. “The turnout was really good, and we all had a lot of fun.”

The winners of the 8 and under division for the rodeo were Walker Jackson and Darron Jones.

He added, “It was good (for) the families and kids to get out together on a beautiful day, having a good time, with the Forth of July approaching. It was a great time, and I’m really looking forward to doing it all again next year.”

An estimated 100 people turned out for the first-time event, with 30 children registered to fish.

The results for the Fishing Rodeo were:

10 and under winners: Kaitlyn Reed, Grayson Thorpe, Airreon McCullough and Gannon Wilson

8 and under winners: Walker Jackson and Darron Jones

This year’s Fishing Rodeo was a success according to attendees, and everyone enjoyed a great time at Sloss Lake.
