Two standouts lead Phil Campbell past Tharptown

Jade Roberson and Kenner Scott’s bats led the Phil Campbell Lady Bobcats past the Tharptown Lady Wildcats 10-4 to win the Silver Bracket of the Belgreen Bash Saturday night.

Roberson and Scott combined to knock in six runs in the win. Roberson went two-for-three at the plate with three RBIs, and she scored two runs. Scott went two-for-three with three RBIs.

Tharptown got the early lead when Kyndall Morgan hit an RBI-double scoring Taylor Cameron to take a 1-0 lead. Phil Campbell, however, responded in the bottom half of the inning on a RBI-triple – Madison Branch scoring Emily Duncan – to tie the game 1-1.

Tharptown reclaimed the lead in the top of the second inning on a single by Ashton Tharp scoring Amerie Villalobos, but the Bobcats broke the game open in the bottom of the second, scoring six runs.

Back-to-back basesloaded walks scored Macey Welborn and Alexis Stewart. Roberson cleared the bases with a triple scoring Abby Garrison, Mary Catherine Swinney and Emily Duncan. Roberson scored on a single by Scott to give the Bobcats a 7-2 lead.

The Phil Campbell girls added to their lead in the third inning. Duncan singled in Stewart, and Scott doubled in Duncan and Roberson, to give Phil Campbell a commanding 10-2 lead.

Tharptown scored two in the top of the fourth inning on a two-RBI double by Cameron scoring Harleigh Borden and Tharp.

Tharptown outhit Phil Campbell 10-8 but couldn’t get the base runners across home plate.

Abby Hamby got the win for the Bobcats, pitching four innings. She allowed four runs and struck out six.

Phil Campbell beat Vina earlier in the day, as well.
