Russellville softball gets back in action with games versus ranked teams

The Russellville varsity softball team returned to local fields after spring break for contests versus talented squads as the regular season heads down the final stretch.

Russellville 2, Haleyville 1

The Lady Golden Tigers traveled to take on the Lady Lions April 12. RHS got a complete game from pitcher Jacey Moore for the win.

Moore threw 149 pitches and struck out 10. The right-hander allowed eight hits and walked four over seven innings. Moore also led the team to victory with the bat by smacking two doubles and picking up two RBIs.

Jenna Whitfield doubled and scored a run. Paislee James also helped the Russellville cause with two hits, a walk and a run.

Hatton 5, Russellville 4

The No. 3-ranked in Class 2A Hatton team hosted RHS April 14 and got a dramatic victory.

After the Lady Golden Tigers had taken a one-run lead heading into the bottom of the seventh inning, Hatton answered with a walk-off, two-run homer a 3-2 pitch with two outs.

Tori Tiffin led Russellville with two hits, including a double and an RBI. James had a triple and two RBIs, and Whitfield added a single and an RBI. Also hitting safely for RHS was Natalie Nichols.

Addison Holcomb went 2 2/3 innings in the circle, and James pitched four frames for Russellville.

Russellville 4, Rogers 3

The Lady Golden Tigers got started in the Florence Tournament April 15 with a win over the 4A No. 8 Lady Pirates in a five-inning contest.

The game was tied in the bottom of the fifth when Melissa Aparisio of RHS hit a ground ball that brought home the winning run. Aparisio earlier doubled and also scored a run.

Emma Campbell and Jaiden Calvert had two hits each for Russellville, with one of Campbell’s hits coming as a double.

Summer Butler had a hit and joined Campbell with RBIs. Tiffin and Moore also hit safely.

Moore did the pitching, allowing five hits and striking out seven for the win.

McNairy Central, Tenn., 4, Russellville 2

The Lady Bobcats from Selmer, Tenn., defeated the Lady Golden Tigers in game two of the day at the Florence tourney.

Russellville (13-17) had four hits, with Tiffin picking up two. Whitfield had a double, an RBI and a run. Moore had the other hit and also drove home a run.

Tiffin pitched all five innings, allowing one earned run. She struck out four and walked none.
