“It’s been a minute,” as the saying goes, since the Red Bay Lady Tigers have beaten the Phil Campbell Lady Bobcats, but the Tigers finally got the win they’ve been waiting for Saturday night – on Senior Night, no less.

A strong defensive effort by the Tiger girls lifted them over the Bobcats 41-35.

It was a battle between the two seniors and both teams’ two best players, with similar stat lines all night: Red Bay’s Kaylie Lindley and Phil Campbell’s Madison Branch.

Lindley scored 24 points and went 14 for 18 from the free-throw line, while Branch scored 25 points and went 13 for 16 from the free-throw line.

Red Bay led Phil Campbell 5-4 at the end of the first quarter and extended that lead to 19-14 at halftime. The Bobcats trimmed the lead to 28-27 at the end of the third quarter before the Tigers sealed the win in the fourth.

Red Bay got 17 points from three other players: 11 from Jaycee Vinson and three each from Shelby Nichols and Eaton.

The Bobcats had three players scoring their other 10 points: five from Macy Hardy, three from Hannah Welborn and two from Layla Baker.

The Red Bay Tiger boys picked up two big in-county wins last week, beating Phil Campbell as well as Belgreen.

Red Bay upended Phil Campbell 49-41. The Tigers led 11-6 at the end of the first, 24-16 at halftime and 35-28 at the end of the third quarter en route to the win.

B.P. Blair and Ty Reynolds led Red Bay with 11 points and 10 points, respectively. Holden Inmon added seven points, Cody Carnes six points, Conner Humphries six points, Ethan McCoy five points, Lawson Glover two points, Kennedy Wilemon one point and Gage Edgmon one point.

Canaan Clay led Phil Campbell with 13 points, followed by Bryant Hyde with 11 points. Quentin Hyde added five points, Sage Raper three points, Gage Baker three points, Kyle Pace two points and Cam Habada two points.

The Tigers easily defeated the Belgreen Bulldogs 74-35 earlier in the week. The Tigers hit 11 three-pointers, including four by Ethan McCoy. Three of McCoy’s came in the third quarter.

Red Bay put the game away early, taking a 23-12 first-quarter lead and extending it to 38-20 at halftime. By the end of the third quarter, the Tigers were firmly in control, 59-30.

Inmon led Red Bay with 15 points, followed by McCoy with 14 points.

Brayden Tabbs added nine points, Carnes seven points, Jeremiah Thorn five points, Humphries four points, Jaxson Vinson three points, Jeremiah Robinson three points and Kennedy Wilemon two points.

Belgreen’s Austin James led all scorers with 15 points. Braycen James added eight points, Jonathan Mendoza six points, Will King two points, Ely Mitchell two points and Miguel Willingham one point.

Johnson led Belgreen in a 57-38 loss to Covenant Christian with 17 points.
