Softball ramps up for county teams

Belgreen 12, Tharptown 1

Belgreen defeated Tharptown 12-1 this past week as softball season got into full swing.

The Lady Bulldogs scored eight runs in the fifth inning to break open a 1-0 game. Lily Blackburn got the win for Belgreen going five innings, allowing no runs on two hits and striking out seven.

Noelle Willingham and Hannah Borden had two hits each for Belgreen. Borden also had three runs batted in and scored two runs.

Blackburn had two RBIs at the plate.

Every batter scored a run for the Bulldogs.

Tharptown 8, Sheffield 5

Tharptowns bats were humming in an 8-4 win over the Sheffield Bulldogs. The Lady Wildcats had 14 hits in the game.

Tharptown led 3-0, but Sheffield battled back, scoring four runs in the fifth inning to take the lead. Tharptown didn’t waste time reclaiming the lead, scoring five runs in the sixth inning to seal the win.

Alyssa Fischer pitched the complete game, allowing five runs on six hits and striking out eight. She also had four hits at the plate, including two RBIs, and a run.

Ashton Tharp and Cortney Smith had two hits apiece. Lily Sutton had two RBIs. Harleigh Borden and Lexie Little scored two runs each.

Belgreen 13, Decatur Heritage 1

Belgreen scored four runs in the first inning, five in the second and four in the third to blow out Decatur Heritage 13-1.

Morgan Vandiver had two hits and two RBIs and scored twice. Hannah Borden had two RBIs. Mackinley Hogan doubled and scored three runs. Willingham and Sydnee West scored twice each.

Belgreen 5, Mae Jemison 1

Belgreen scored twice in the first inning and three times in the second to beat Mae Jemison 5-1. Willingham and Morgan Vandiver scored two runs each. Borden allowed the one run on three hits and struck out seven.
