County all-star teams look to advance

The John Blackwell Sports Complex in Russellville has been full of stars lately. Dixie Youth all-stars to be exact.

Russellville was the host for the sub-area and district tournaments that featured 12-and-under, 10-and-under, and 6-and-under Dixie Youth all-star teams. The tournament started on June 19 and is a round-robin format.

All-star teams from Russellville, Phil Campbell, Muscle Shoals, Central, Colbert Heights, Lexington, and Tuscumbia met at the complex to determine which teams would move on to the next tournament.

The 12-and-under and 10-and-under teams were competing in the sub-area tournament.

“The top three teams (in sub-area) move on to sub-district,” said Mary Scofield, tournament site director. “The first place teams will host the sub-district.”

The 6-and-under teams were competing for the district.

Russellville has teams in all three groups while Phil Campbell fielded a 10-and-under team for the tournament.

The fate of Russellville’s 12-and-under and 6-and-under teams were decided on Monday night.

The 12-and-under Russellville team fell to Tuscumbia 8-5 Monday night but came in second place overall and will advance. The 6-and-under Russellville team took first place in the district and will play at state.

The top three teams in the 10-and-under group will be determined on June 24. Russellville will play Central at 6:00PM and Phil Campbell will face Colbert Heights at 8:00PM on Wednesday night.
