Belgreen tops PC to win tournament

The Belgreen Lady Bulldogs held off the Phil Campbell Lady Bobcats to win the Bulldog Bash tournament Saturday at Belgreen. Belgreen outlasted Phil Campbell in a flurry of early scoring to beat the Bobcats 8-6.

The Bulldogs struck first in the top of the first inning, scoring two when Lila Blackburn doubled in Katie Dempsey and Emma Dempsey. Blackburn scored on a sacrifice fly to give Belgreen a 3-0 lead.

Jaylen Johnson scored on a wild pitch, and Bailey Wood scored on an RBI-single by Kacey Wilson to give Belgreen an early 5-0 lead.

Belgreen added to that lead in the top of the second inning, when Blackburn doubled in Emma Dempsey. Blackburn came around to score later on an error to give the Bulldogs a commanding 7-0 lead.

Phil Campbell came storming back in the bottom of the second inning. With one out and the bases loaded, Kaci Harris scored, and Olivia Taylor was hit by a pitch. Phil Campbell scored again on a sacrifice fly.

The Bobcats then went on a four-run, two-out rally. Kenner Scott scored on an RBI-single by Emma Duncan; Caymen Quinn tripled, scoring Taylor and Duncan to cut Belgreen’s lead to 7-5.

Quinn scored on a Katie Thomas double to cut the Bulldogs’ lead to 7-6 before the inning ended.

Belgreen added an insurance run in the third when Wilson scored to make it 8-6.

Blackburn went two-for-three with three RBIs and two runs scored. Emma Dempsey went two-for-three with an RBI and scored two runs.

Dempsey also got the win in the circle, striking out five and allowing six hits.

For the Bobcats, Duncan went two-for-three with an RBI and a run scored.

In other games, Belgreen defeated Cold Springs 5-2. Bailey Wood had two RBIs. Emma Dempsey struck out four and allowed just two hits.

Belgreen beat Elkmont 2-1. Katie Dempsey knocked in both runs on a double. Emma Dempsey struck out six.

Emma Dempsey and Sydney Borden combined to hold the Tharptown Wildcats to no runs and one hit as Belgreen shut out the Wildcats 15-0 Monday.

Borden went three-for-three with a double and two RBIs and scored two runs. Blackburn had a double and a triple with two RBIs and scored two runs.

Katie Dempsey scored three runs. Jaylen Johnson, Noelle Willingham, and Gracie Dempsey scored two runs each.
