County volleyball teams notch wins

There was plenty of action in Franklin County volleyball this week, including two intercounty matchups and the Bulldog Classic tournament Saturday.

Tharptown beat Red Bay Thursday, three sets to two.

Jaiden Gaston led the Wildcats with 13 kills, six aces and four blocks. Leslie Staggs added seven aces and three kills, and Taylor Cameron added four kills.

For Red Bay, Madeline Ledbetter and Kaylie Lindley had 10 kills each. Ledbetter also had seven blocks. Talli Hamilton added 19 assists.

Belgreen beat Red Bay three sets to zero Tuesday. It was Belgreen’s senior night celebration for seniors Nora Castillo, Kaley Chandler and Madison Vandiver.

Hannah Borden’s 10 aces and three blocks sparked Belgreen past the Tigers. Castillo finished with six digs, while Carson Hovater and Chandler each had four aces.

Belgreen beat Phillips and Colbert Heights Thursday. The Bulldogs beat Phillips 25-18, 25-19, 15-25, 25-11 and Colbert Heights 25-23, 25-18.

Morgan Vandiver had eight aces and six digs in the two matches. Borden had nine assists in the opener and four digs in the second match, while Noelle Willingham totaled 14 assists. Chandler’s four kills led Belgreen against Phillips, and Hovater added three kills.

Cherokee won the Bulldog Classic Saturday that featured multiple teams, including all county teams. The Indians beat the Bulldogs in the finals 3-0.
