Vina gets area win over Phillips
The Vina Red Devils improved to 6-5 this week with a blowout area win over Phillips 80-51.
Vina led the Bears 13-9 at the end of the first quarter and extended their lead to 34-21 at halftime. In the second half, Vina outscored Phillips 46-29 to seal the win.
Freshman Lana Bell scored 26 points and Junior Khylee Brooks had a double/double with 23 points and 19 rebounds. Freshman Layla Hester had a double/double with 17 points and 10 assists. Junior Sara Harper scored six points and 13 assists followed by sophomores Braxtyn Quinn and Miranda King with four points each.
Vina lost to Fayette County 53-45 last week.The games were tied 10-10 at the end of the first quarter, but Fayette gained the lead in the second quarter for a 27-18 halftime lead. Vina came back in the third quarter to cut the Tigers lead to 38-36, but Fayette County pulled away in the fourth quarter.
Hester led The Lady Red Devils with 17 points, followed by Bell with 10 points. Brooks scored eight points and pulled down 18 rebounds. Quinn scored six points, followed by Mikala Mitchell and Harper with two points each. Harper also had seven assists.
