Four area basketball championships down, one still to play 

Four Franklin County teams won area championships on Tuesday and will host subregional games this weekend. Belgreen’s girls and boys, Phil Campbell’s girls and Red Bay’s boys all won area championships. Russellville’s boys had a chance to add another on Wednesday.  

Belgreen’s girls and boys won the Class 1A Area 14 championship. The varsity girls beat Hackleburg 46-38. Dakota Green led the Bulldogs with 18 points, going 9-for-10 from the free throw line.  As a team, Belgreen was 15-for-18 from the line.  

Belgreen’s varsity boys also beat Hackleburg, winning 45-35. Jonathan Mendoza led the Bulldogs with 17 points.   

Belgreen hosts both the girls and boys in subregion games on Saturday, The girls host Hubbertville at 5:30 p.m. The boys host Lynn at 7 p.m.  

The Red Bay boys beat Sulligent 67-53 to claim the Class 2A Area 10 title.  Lawson Glover led the Tigers with 24 points.  

Red Bay hosts Whitesburg Christian Saturday in subregion play at 6 p.m.   

The Phil Campbell varsity girls won the Class 3A, Area 15 championship, beating Danville 55-50.  Macy Hardy and Leela Baker led the Bobcats with 19 points and 18 points respectively.   

The Russellville Golden Tigers girls team finished runner up in the Class 5A, Area 15 tournament, losing to West Point 56-37. Russellville travels to Pleasant Grove on Friday.  

Russellville’s boys will play Lawrence County for the area championship Wednesday at 6 p.m.
