Red Bay wins sixth straight area title, advances to regional

The Red Bay Tigers beat the Sulligent Blue Devils 67-53 to win their sixth straight area title, afterwards defeating Whitesburg Christian 61-38 in subregion play to advance to the Northwest Regional. The Tigers will play Mars Hill on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at Wallace State Community College.

In the area championship game, Lawson Glover led Red Bay to the 67-53 win over Sulligent. Glover scored 24 points, including nine in a big second quarter for the Tigers and eight points in the third.

Red Bay led Sulligent 17-15 at the end of the first quarter. The Tigers, fueled by Lawson’s nine points, outscored the Blue Devils 24-10 in the second quarter. Red Bay, again led by Lawson, outpaced Sulligent 16-11 in the third quarter to take a 57-36 lead in the third quarter.

Holden Inmon followed Glover with 13 points and Cody Carnes with 10 points. Ty Reynolds added seven points, Gage Edgmon five points, Brayden Tabbs three points, Kennedy Wilemon two points, Conner Humphres two points and Ethan McCoy one point.

In subregion play, Red Bay breezed past Whitesburg Christian. The Tigers led 16-12 at the end of the first quarter and 30-16 at halftime.

A big second half by Lawson Glover and Cody Carnes put the game away for the Tigers. Glover scored 16 of his game-high 18 points in the second half. Carnes hit three of his five three-pointers in the fourth quarter. Carnes ended the game with 17 points.

Ty Reynolds added 14 points, Gage Edgmon seven points, Holden Inmon four points and Conner Humphres one point.
