A Lauderdale County man was in critical condition late Tuesday afternoon after allegedly threatening family members, leading authorities on an interstate chase and wrecking his car.
Chief Deputy Mike Mitchell of the Lauderdale County Sheriff's Department said Gerald Addy, 32, of the Crescent Lake Road area wrecked on Interstate 20 in Newton County about 4 p.m.
The incident began in Lauderdale County in the Crescent Lake Road and Causeyville area about an hour earlier.
Mitchell said authorities are not sure where he went after he left. Someone called from a cell phone saying they saw Addy's car, a green Toyota Camry or Tercel, headed west on Interstate 20 toward Jackson.
Mitchell said Newton County authorities removed Addy from his vehicle. He was transported to a Newton County hospital and was later flown to a Jackson hospital in critical condition. Mitchell said his condition this morning is unknown.
A hunting rifle was found in the trunk of his car. Mitchell said Addy was taking some kind of medication, but authorities are not sure what type or how much. Mitchell said there was no indication alcohol was involved.
He said MHP officers are investigating the car accident, while Lauderdale County authorities are investigating the report of domestic violence. Mitchell said family members have filed no charges against Addy at this time.
