Saint, Dorroh lead Bobcats past Cherokee

CHEROKEE — Jamie Dorroh set the tone early for Phil Campbell, returning the opening kickoff 68 yards to put the Bobcat offense in business at the Cherokee 11-yard line.

He scored moments later on a 6-yard run and Craig Saint scored on the 2-point conversion to help propel Phil Campbell to a 37-23 victory.

Cherokee tied the game 8-8, but Saint capped off an 80-yard drive by scrambling for a 25-yard touchdown run and he added another 2-point conversion.

Saint added another touchdown run and 2-point conversion to give the Bobcats (2-5, 1-4) a 24-0 advantage.

The Phil Campbell defense then got involved in the scoring when Dorroh picked off a Cherokee pass and returned it 58 yards for another touchdown.

The Indians chipped into Phil Campbell’s lead with a 51-yard touchdown pass and a 3-yard touchdown run to cut the deficit to 31-23.

It appeared Cherokee might get the ball back with a chance to tie the game as the Indian defense forced Phil Campbell into a third-and-18 situation, but Saint had other ideas. He connected with Colton Vickery on the play for a 51-yard touchdown strike to put the game out of reach.

Saint carried the ball 27 times for 190 yards and completed 8-of-21 passes for 106 yards.

Phil Campbell will host Red Bay next week.
