A 33-year-old Meridian woman and an unidentified passenger in a city police car were transported to local hospitals Monday following a two-car collision.
Police said a vehicle driven by Agnes Ward and a police cruiser driven by Corporal Michael Phillips were involved in a collision at the intersection of Eighth Street and 38th Avenue shortly before 2 p.m. Ward and the unidentified passenger in the police car were taken to local hospitals for evaluation.
According to MPD officials, the passenger in the police car was an apparent victim of a call that Phillips was in the process of handling at the time of the wreck.
Phillips was reportedly not injured in the mishap, but traffic on heavily-traveled Eighth Street was backed up for an hour as police cleared the scene. An investigation is currently under way by MPD's Advanced Accident Investigation Team to determine the cause of the accident.
