Block party planned for this weekend

Looking for something to do this weekend?

Divine Baptist Church is having their first-ever block party Saturday beginning at 10:30 a.m. at the church.

Pastor Roger Kennedy said this is a church-wide event designed for all family members young and old.

“We wanted to do something as a community service for our community so we decided to have a block party,” Kennedy said.

Kennedy said there will be free food, drinks, snow cones, and popcorn along with games, music, inflatables, and the orbiter.

“We are going to have an inflatable for the smaller kids and an inflatable obstacle course for the bigger kids as well,” Kennedy said.

In addition to the activities, there will be horseshoe pitching and washer pitching as well.

“We wanted to have something for everyone so we decided to have washer pitching,” Kennedy said. “The older people will know what washer pitching is.”

Kennedy said the event will end after the free concert where Jeremy Allison will perform.

“We will also have our praise team sing during the day,” Kennedy said. “We want everyone to come out and join us for this special event.”

Kennedy said the church will also be pre-registering for their Vacation Bible School, which will be held June 19 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

“Our vacation Bible school will be a one day Saturday event,” Kennedy said. “We hope to get some children pre-registered for that as well.”

The theme for this year’s VBS is Saddle Ridge.
