Former Red Bay athlete Adam Seahorn took the next step in his college career by signing a golf scholarship with Blue Mountain College last Tuesday.

Seahorn, a two-year letterman at Itawamba Community College, will be joining BMC and golf coach Danny McKenzie this fall during a rebuilding year.

The team graduated four seniors this past spring so Seahorn will be moving into a starting position for Blue Mountain.

“Playing at this level has been a dream of mine since I started playing golf,” said Seahorn.

“I’m just blessed to be able to achieve this goal.”

Coach McKenzie first noticed Seahorn during some junior college tournaments and also when ICC and Blue Mountain met for some practice rounds.

“Itawamba’s Coach Rather and I grew up together in Holly Springs, Miss., so each year we try to get our teams together for some practice. I was able to see Adam then,” McKenzie said.

“He’s going to be a big part of our rebuilding. He’s played college golf and I wanted someone that has experience and who has been there.”

McKenzie said that Seahorn has a lot of potential and they’re going to tap into it pretty quick.

The Blue Mountain golf program has just completed their fourth year and just recently set a new school record on the first day at the conference tournament in Montgomery, AL.

“Our program is getting better each year,” McKenzie added.

“Last year the team won a regional National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) tournament and qualified for the National NAIA championship in Salem, Oregon.”

Seahorn’s golf experience goes back several years that includes two trips to state competition during his freshman and senior year at Red Bay High School.

His teammates included Austin Sparks, Tra’ Elliott, and Isaiah Jackson.

“Playing at the college level is a lot more competitive,” Seahorn said.

“The teams we play are tougher than what we played in high school. You don’t have a variety of scores. It’s narrowed down because everyone is good.”

Seahorn said he’ll spend this summer getting in all the practice he can and will also play in a few tournaments before classes resumes in the fall.
